Phil Thompson's song works like a list of titles rather than a story, stacking one name for Jesus after another — Word of the Father, Son of Man, Lion and Lamb, Head of the Church — until the sheer accumulation becomes the point. 'God of creation, all things were made through Jesus' pulls directly from Colossians 1:16's claim that everything visible and invisible was created through him and for him, while the title itself borrows John 1:29's 'behold the Lamb of God' directly.

The pairing of 'Lion and Lamb' in the same breath holds together two images Revelation keeps separate — conquering strength and sacrificial weakness — without resolving the tension between them, which is exactly the point of naming Jesus both. 'Resurrection and Life, death has died in Jesus' inverts the expected phrase, a small lyrical choice that makes an old claim sound freshly strange. The repetition throughout functions the way a creed does, returning to the same confessions until they sink in.
