Chasing Your Glory

Phil Thompson's “Chasing Your Glory” starts with a list taken from one of Paul's letters: “Persecuted, not abandoned, struck down, not destroyed. We are more than overcomers, hard pressed but not crushed.” The lines frame the song as the faith of people who have been through pressure and are still standing.

The prayer in the middle is short and direct. “Oh Lord, our Lord, we run to You. Our hope, our strength, we trust in You.” Then the song looks up with a statement that heaven is open and blessings are pouring, and that creation is groaning for sons and daughters to rise up. The chorus is the title, repeated with a promise that God is changing the story. The next line draws on another of Paul's phrases about being transformed from glory to glory. The repetition lets a crowd sing with energy, and the lyric ties the idea of pursuing God's glory to the experience of hardship instead of avoiding it. It is a song for gatherings that want a lively, declarative tone, and it works for prayer nights and conferences where people expect God to move. The message is that chasing God's glory is not an escape from hard times but the way to walk through them.

Hard pressed but not crushed is 2 Corinthians 4:8-9. Being transformed from glory to glory is 2 Corinthians 3:18, and creation waiting for the sons of God is Romans 8:19.
